of obama care. hishe gentle man knows, constituents as well as mine are faced with higher premiums. he has said to the american people they can keep their health care laws if they would like -- health care plans if they would like to. they have to figure out what kinds of plants are actually there for them. the administration claims the website is working just fine. we know the backend of that website is not working just fine. i am glad people are able to get on and see what is there. we don't really know how successful the sign-ups and enrollments are being. areo know most individuals facing higher premiums. those that have had to give up the plan are facing higher premiums and plants they don't necessarily choose, that they are forced to have because of the operation of this law. we need to focus on this issue. we voted on the alternative back in 2009. there was a planned the congressional budget office said ford reduce premium patients out there. we have not resolved this issue of health care. there is a better way. we ought to spend time focusing on how we are going to resolve that for

the majority from the prosperity enjoyed by those happy few." just last week, president obama echoed those concerns in an address on income and equality. he spoke at the center for american progress, and he noted that more than half of all americans at some point in their lives will experience poverty. the week before thanksgiving, a wal-mart in ohio was running a food drive to help the hungry have a happy thanksgiving. that kind of generosity and empathy is commendable. what was noteworthy, though, is that the food drive was specifically to support their associates, their own employees. it reminded me of an effort by mcdonald's launched earlier this year to help their employees create a budget. according to that budget, the only way to make ends meet for someone making the minimum wage and working 40 hours at mcdonald's was to take a second job. of it was unnecessary. as president obama has said, fighting to deliver quality, affordable health insurance and the security that comes with it to every american is paramount. this is about making sure that everyone in the united states gets a fair shake, and it's about the economic imperative as we continue to rebuild our economy and build a better bargain for the middle class. that's what the affordable care act does, by using touchtone american values of transparency and competition to improve health care protection, and affordability to those americans who already have insurance, and to provide new affordable care options for consumers who either don't have it or want to switch their insurance. we finally put in place real solutions that have been at work for generations, and we will continue for generations to come. now, reform and our health care system is not an easy task. i don't need to tell anybody in the room this or anyone who's read the newspapers the last few months. i will set worked on many competition issues to middle east peace, iran, budget deals. i can tell everybody in

in miami and this morning i went to a meeting with the inter-american dialogue breakfast there. i was a member of the inter-american dialogue for many years. i was covice chairman. had an interesting visit to the white house and president obama. i appeared as his guest on the official visit. i went out oai and sphoact general asemibelie there and the ambassadors in earlier guests that they had invited by then went to speak with the head of the democratic party of the house nancy pelosi, and a few of the members of the house of the democratic party. then i went to speak with speaker boehner and a few of the republicans in the house. with whom i've been working for many years. not only as president but also as former minister. now i'm here. and last night i had a dinner with the center for american progress. members of that think tank. and i'm having dinner tonight with the counsel they invited me to address them. what has been the main messages trying to convey to the u.s. officials and the u.s. public first thank the u.s. government in both parties for the help they have given us
